A glass unit in the Bhiwadi belt was getting unreliable temperature readings on a furnace zone, with the control fighting to hold the profile and occasional quality issues in the product. The controls were suspected, and a controls upgrade was being considered.
The furnace thermocouple was a general-purpose type in a protection tube that had degraded in the high-temperature atmosphere. It was reading erratically and drifting as it aged, so the controller could not hold a stable profile — a measurement fault presenting as a controls problem.
We supplied a thermocouple of the correct calibration with a ceramic protection tube matched to the furnace atmosphere and temperature, calibrated the loop with a certificate, and set a replacement interval. The reading steadied, the controller held the profile, and the quality issues cleared — without the planned controls upgrade.
The Bhiwadi–Neemrana belt is modern and well-run, but it gets let down the same way older belts do — an under-specified thermocouple in a furnace, a dry gauge on a press, an uncalibrated transmitter in a loop — and the reflex is to suspect the controls or the plant. Getting the instrument specified and calibrated correctly is almost always the cheaper first move.
