Most instrument failures are not manufacturing defects — they are specification mistakes. These are the ones we see most often in Agra.
Direct-connected gauges do not survive tanning liquors and pigment chemistry. A diaphragm seal with the correct wetted material and fill fluid keeps the process off the instrument — the difference between an instrument that lasts and one replaced every season.
The well takes thermal shock, scale and mechanical abuse. Match the sheath and ceramic protection to the atmosphere and temperature, and the thermocouple stops being a monthly consumable.
Compressor and condenser lines, low temperatures and refrigerant media need gauges built for the service — a general-purpose gauge on a refrigeration line is a short-lived compromise.
Live steam cooks a gauge in weeks. A siphon protects it for a fraction of the cost — the most common avoidable failure in a processing unit.

A leather unit in the Agra cluster was replacing pressure gauges on its tanning and effluent lines frequently, treating corroded gauges as an unavoidable cost of the chemistry.
The gauges were direct-connected to acidic, salt-laden tanning liquor. The wetted parts were being attacked and the gauges corroded through — no general-purpose gauge survives that, whatever its price. The instrument choice, not the process, was the problem.
We supplied diaphragm sealed gauges with the correct wetted material and fill fluid so the liquor never touched the measuring element, with flushing connections where the media carried solids. The frequent replacements stopped, and the unit standardised the build across its aggressive lines — a recurring cost solved by specifying the instrument once.
Agra's tanning, pigment and chemical units waste a lot on gauges that corrode through because the wetted material was never specified for the media. A direct-connected gauge on aggressive liquor fails predictably, and the reflex is a cheaper replacement that fails just as fast. The fix is not a cheaper gauge — it is the right build.
