Panipat is the largest home-furnishing and shoddy yarn cluster in India. Blankets, carpets, rugs, curtains and made-ups, most of it dyed and processed locally, much of it exported. The city has hundreds of dyeing houses ranging from a few machines to full processing plants.
Almost every quality complaint in this trade comes back to temperature. Shade matching depends on the dyeing curve being repeatable — heat rate, hold temperature and hold time. Where those are run on a manual valve and an operator's judgement, no two batches match, and the reprocessing that follows costs dye, water, steam and time.
That is why we talk about controllers here rather than gauges. A dyeing house that installs proper temperature control usually recovers the cost in reduced reprocessing within a season, and that is an argument we are comfortable making because it is arithmetic rather than sales.
Shade variation between batches. The single largest cost in this trade. It is almost always a heat rate and hold problem rather than a recipe problem, and it is fixed with a programmable controller rather than a better dye.
Sensors that fail in the bath. A dyeing bath is hot, wet and chemically aggressive. Sheath material and head ingress protection decide whether a sensor lasts years or months, and water in the head is the usual cause of a drifting reading.
Boiler steam that nobody watches. Every dye house runs a boiler. Steam pressure feeding the jackets decides how quickly the bath heats, and a drifted or failed gauge means the operator is heating blind.
Stenter and dryer temperature. Fabric hand, shrinkage and dimensional stability all follow the drying temperature. A drifted zone produces material that passes on Monday and fails on Friday.
Effluent treatment run on inspection. Discharge standards are enforced here. pH and flow measurement on the ETP is not optional any more, and a plant running it by eye is one inspection away from a problem.

Running already and fighting shade variation? Start by measuring what the curve actually does rather than what the recipe says. In most cases the heat rate is uncontrolled and the hold is approximate, and both are fixable without changing anything else in the process.
Effluent compliance. If your ETP is running on visual inspection, instrument it before an inspector raises it rather than afterwards. pH, flow and level measurement is modest in cost and removes the exposure.
