A dairy plant near Lucknow was getting inconsistent pasteurisation temperature readings, with the steam gauge on the heating loop failing repeatedly and the temperature sensor reading erratically — a serious issue on a food-safety-critical process.
The steam gauge was direct-connected with no siphon and was being cooked, and the pasteuriser temperature sensor was a general-purpose type poorly fitted in its well with an air gap, so it read slowly and lagged the process. On a pasteuriser, an unreliable temperature reading is a food-safety problem, not just an inconvenience.
We fitted a steam gauge with a siphon and hygienic connection, supplied a correctly-specified, spring-loaded RTD sensor fitted snugly in the thermowell, and calibrated the loop with a certificate. The temperature reading became fast and reliable, the gauge failures stopped, and the pasteurisation process ran within its safe window consistently.
Lucknow's mid-sized plants waste instrument spend the usual way — buying cheap gauges and sensors reactively because the duty was never specified.
