Most instrument failures are not manufacturing defects — they are specification mistakes. These are the ones we see most often in Jaipur.
Live steam cooks a gauge in weeks, and dye-bath temperature decides the shade. Siphons on steam and correctly-specified dye-bath sensors are the design, not the extra.
Ceramic, glass and tile kilns destroy the well. Match the sheath and ceramic protection to the atmosphere and temperature and the thermocouple stops being a consumable.
Marble and granite cutting and polishing hammer a gauge. Glycerine-filled gauges with snubbers, ranged to two-thirds of scale, last far longer.
Direct-connected gauges do not survive aggressive dye liquor. A diaphragm seal with the correct wetted material keeps the process off the instrument.

A textile printing and dyeing unit in the Sanganer belt was getting shade inconsistencies between batches. The dye-bath temperature readings were drifting and the steam gauges on the heating loop were failing regularly, so operators could not trust the numbers they were setting.
The steam gauges were direct-connected with no siphon and were being cooked, and the dye-bath sensors were general-purpose types poorly positioned in the bath. With unreliable temperature measurement, holding a consistent dye shade batch to batch was impossible — a measurement problem presenting as a process-quality problem.
We fitted steam gauges with siphons, supplied correctly-specified dye-bath RTD sensors positioned properly in the bath, and calibrated the loops with certificates. The temperature held true and repeatable, the shade consistency improved, and the steam-gauge failures stopped — solved by getting the measurement right.
Jaipur's spread — textiles next to ceramics next to stone next to engineering — means it gets sold instrumentation the same careless way across very different duties: a dry steam gauge on a dye loop, an under-protected kiln thermocouple, an unsnubbed gauge on a stone-cutting hydraulic line. Each fails predictably, and the reflex is a cheaper replacement that fails just as fast.
