Most instrument failures are not manufacturing defects — they are specification mistakes. These are the ones we see most often in Chennai.

An auto-component supplier in the Oragadam belt was seeing inconsistent hardness results from a heat-treatment furnace, with occasional batches falling outside specification. The furnace controls looked correct, and the process engineers were treating it as a furnace calibration issue.
The furnace thermocouples were a general-purpose type in protection tubes that had degraded in the furnace atmosphere. They were reading low and drifting as they aged, so the controller ran the furnace hotter than indicated on some cycles and correct on others — exactly the pattern that produces inconsistent hardness.
We supplied thermocouples of the correct calibration with ceramic protection tubes matched to the furnace atmosphere and temperature, calibrated the loops with certificates, and set a replacement interval. The temperature held true, the hardness results came back into specification consistently, and the batch rejections stopped.
