Mundka is a cable belt with a storage problem

Mundka sits on the Rohtak Road in west Delhi and is best known for two things: cable and electrical goods manufacture, and an extremely dense concentration of godowns and storage buildings.

The manufacturing side is genuine — wire drawing, cable extrusion and curing, electrical fittings, plastics and moulding, packaging. These are real process operations with extrusion barrels, curing lines and hydraulic machinery that need proper instrumentation.

The storage side is what makes Mundka unusual. Multi-storey buildings packed with finished goods, packaging material, plastics and electricals, often in structures never designed for that load or that fire risk. The fire in 2022 that killed dozens of people in a Mundka building was a consequence of exactly that combination, and it changed how buyers here think about detection and monitoring.

We will not use that as a sales argument, and we would ask you not to treat detection as a box to tick. But if you operate here, the honest position is that gas and fire detection in a storage building full of plastics and cable is not optional equipment.

What actually needs measuring in a Mundka unit

Cable extrusion zone temperature. Insulation thickness, concentricity and dielectric performance all follow the barrel profile. Zones drifting apart produce cable that passes visual inspection and fails a high-voltage test — which is discovered by your customer, not by you.

Curing and vulcanising line temperature. Cross-linked insulation needs the cure held properly. Run on a single controller set years ago, the cure varies between runs and the failure appears in service.

Wire drawing die and bath temperature. Die temperature affects finish and breakage rate; lubricant bath temperature affects both. Neither is measured in most units here.

Fire and gas detection in storage areas. Godowns packed with plastics, packaging and cable have a heavy fire load and often poor ventilation. Detection has to actually cover the space, not sit in a corridor.

Compressed air across a mixed building. Where several units share a building and a compressor, pressure at the far end is often well below what the machines there need, and nobody has a gauge to prove it.

What Mundka plants ask us for most
Cable & wire manufacture

Multi-zone extrusion controllers with independent auto-tune, mineral insulated barrel sensors, curing line control, and die and lubricant bath measurement.

Electrical goods & fittings

Oven and curing temperature control, test bench instrumentation, panel indicators and annunciators.

Plastics & moulding

Multi-zone controllers, barrel and tool sensors, chilled tool water control and hydraulic circuit gauges.

Storage & godown buildings

Fire detection panels, smoke and heat detectors, flammable gas detection where solvents are present, and stock condition monitoring.

Instrumentation we supply into Mundka

For cable and wire manufacture: multi-zone extrusion controllers with independent auto-tune, mineral insulated barrel sensors, curing and vulcanising line temperature control, die and lubricant bath measurement, and process recorders where a customer requires evidence.

For electrical goods and fittings: oven and curing temperature control, test bench instrumentation, panel indicators and annunciators.

For plastics and moulding: multi-zone controllers, barrel and tool sensors, chilled tool water control and hydraulic circuit gauges.

For storage and godown buildings: fire detection panels, smoke and heat detectors, flammable gas detection where solvents or LPG are present, and temperature and humidity monitoring where stock condition matters.

For shared utilities: compressed air line gauges and pressure switches, so a unit at the far end of a building can demonstrate what it is actually receiving.

Packing, cable drums and moving weight safely

Cable is heavy, awkward and comes on drums, which makes the handling equipment more important here than the sealing machine.

Drum handling sized for full cable drums rather than empty ones is the single most common thing specified wrongly in this belt. A full drum is a different object from the one in the catalogue photograph, and equipment rated for the empty weight fails quickly and dangerously.

For packaged electrical goods and mouldings, semi-automatic strapping and carton sealing at bench scale suits the plot sizes here. Where a godown despatches continuously, an arch strapping machine handles it without a conveyor.

Hydraulic pallet trucks with wheels suited to a rough or ramped floor, and box wrapping with a top press for palletised loads. Consumables quoted with the machine, and wear parts held against your order reference.

Drum handling for full drums

The most common specification error in this belt. Equipment rated for the empty drum fails quickly and dangerously.

Bench-scale strapping & sealing

Semi-automatic machines that suit the plot sizes here, and an arch machine where a godown despatches continuously.

Trucks for rough and ramped floors

Wheel type matters more than headline capacity in buildings that were not designed as warehouses.

Spares against your order

Sealing elements and wear parts held so the part matches the machine actually installed.

Setting up a unit, or making an existing one safer

Fitting out in Mundka? Tell us the process and, separately, tell us about the building — storeys, stock stored, ventilation and exits. Instrumentation and detection are two different conversations and both matter here.

Running a manufacturing unit? Start with the extrusion or curing profile. In most cable units the zones have drifted apart and nobody has compared them on one time base. It is a cheap check with a direct effect on test failures.

Operating a storage building? Have the detection assessed honestly rather than certified quietly. We will tell you what the space actually needs and what it does not, and where the requirement is a licensing matter rather than an equipment one, we will say that too.

Questions buyers here ask

Our cable fails high-voltage test intermittently. Where do we look?

The extrusion zone profile, before anything else. Zones drifting apart produce insulation that passes visual inspection and fails electrically, and it is usually discovered by the customer rather than in the plant. Comparing every zone on one time base is a cheap first check.

What controller suits a cable extrusion line?

A multi-zone controller with independent auto-tune per zone. Each zone then tunes to its own real behaviour, which a single controller set once and left alone will not do across a long barrel.

Do you supply fire and gas detection for godowns?

Yes — fire detection panels, smoke and heat detectors, and flammable gas detection where solvents or LPG are present. We will also tell you plainly where the requirement is a licensing matter rather than an equipment one, because that distinction is often blurred by suppliers here.

What drum handling equipment do we need for cable drums?

Equipment rated for the full drum, not the empty one. This is the most common specification error in this belt, and equipment rated for the lighter weight fails quickly and dangerously.

Our machines at the far end of the building run weak. Why?

Almost certainly compressed air pressure. Where units share a building and a compressor, pressure at the far end is frequently well below what those machines need — and without a line gauge nobody can prove it.

Do you measure lubricant bath temperature on wire drawing?

Yes. Die and bath temperature affect finish and breakage rate together, and neither is measured in most units here. It is a small addition with a direct effect on wire quality.

How quickly can you deliver to Mundka?

Next working day from our Faridabad works for stock items ordered before 4 PM. Mundka is about 55 km across the city.
